Saginaw Justice Library Join us in reading and discussing Octavia Butler’s Kindred, a timely, provocative read when it was first published in 1979—and now, in the aftermath of the recent BLM movement in our country, even more so. Can a novel shed light on the relationship between the past and the present, the legacy of slavery in America, and the power of one individual’s story? And can this novel, and our conversations about it, inform our choices going forward? Those are some of the questions we’ll pose in our Community Read through the months of January and February. Please join us and add your voice to our discussion. Kindred is available in both its original (novel) form and as a graphic novel by Daiman Duffy, created in 2017.Pick up a free copy of either version of this book at any of the Saginaw Public Library branches through December 2020.
