~ Ezekiel's 5 Justice Taskforces ~
Criminal Justice & Reform Taskforce Focuses on both informing and empowering the community through acts of systematic and institutional changes. We continue to uphold these ideals by working with local organizations and local civic leaders. We are currently working on 'Raise the Age' campaign and Smart Justice. Economic Justice Taskforce Focuses on informing the public about issues that directly and indirectly affect Saginaw and other surrounding areas socioeconomic influxes such as unemployment, fair wages, paid sick time, and more. We believe in empowering citizens by educating them on matters dealing with economic policies and through this acquired knowledge provide them the tools to enact change in their community. We have partnered with EJAM and other statewide organizations to accomplish these goals.
Education Justice Taskforce Focuses on teaching greater literacy comprehension skills and equal opportunity education for all Michigan students. The LEGO program is an after-school reading program that pairs third-grade students from local elementary schools with trained adult mentors from the community to improve their reading comprehension, reading speed, vocabulary, and critical thinking skills. We are also partnered with the Michigan Education Justice Coalition (MEJC) to create policy change and re-image MI public schools for current and future students.
Environmental Justice Taskforce Focuses on ensuring the community is clean, healthy, and has accessible resources. We use a very engaging and proactive approach to achieving a more sustainable and environmentally friendly Saginaw. We are currently working on cleaning up and converting abandoned lots and other neighborhood blight as well as facing problems concerning the food deserts in our community.
Health & Social Justice Taskforce Focuses on seven principles: affordability, awareness, availability, acceptability, adequacy, appropriateness, and accessibility when dealing with the healthcare system. We believe these key components should be tangible for all potential patients regardless of their race, religious practices, or socioeconomic standing. As well as ensuring that the civil rights of immigrants are upheld. |
